September 2007
The Queenstown Lakes District Council saw a need to identify the existing and historical character of the Town Centre Zone in Queenstown and to prepare a set of Guidelines to help developers prepare designs which reflect this identified character.
These guidelines are also to be used by the council staff in assessing such designs at resource consent stage.
This practice worked alongside Brown and Pemberton, Planners, and Rebecca Skidmore, Urban Designer.
The Guidelines are set out graphically with photographed examples of particular historical characteristics and diagrams, followed by hypothetical examples of sympathetic and less sympathetic designs, together with actual examples of buildings which demonstrate appropriate solutions.
